Updated ‘Toolkit’ helps providers prevent opioid overdoses
The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has released an updated edition of its Opioid Overdose Toolkit. The free toolkit is designed to help communities develop policies and practices to aid in preventing opioid-related overdoses and deaths. Prescribers of opioids at high doses for long-term pain management, as well as prescribers of rotating opioid medication regimens, are advised to also consider prescribing a naloxone kit or Evzio — a one-time dose of naloxone in an auto-injector. The toolkit also recommends training patients and their caregivers in using the drug for an overdose. Link to source>>
