On behalf of the organising committee of the SPCC 2014 & Singapore Hospice Council, I would like to invite you to hop on board early for a ride that you have been waiting for - the sixth edition of the Singapore Palliative Care Conference (SPCC 2014). It will be held at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre on 28 – 29 June 2014.

The theme for SPCC 2014 is "Building Bridges, Enhancing Care". SPCC 2014 offers in-depth perspectives from leading clinicians and practitioners in the field, sharing on practical programmes and interventions beneficial for life and landscape transformations. With these programmes, we aim to advance skills and knowledge by building a platform for world experts, medical professionals and allied health professionals to converge, learn and share.

We aim to make every Palliative Care Conference better than the last thus we are extremely proud to fly in four distinguished speakers from the world of palliative care to share with us their most valued experience and knowledge. Whether you are a clinician or an allied health practitioner, you will be equipped with new skills, ideas and inspiration that would be able to help you grow and resource yourself as a palliative care provider or researcher. This Conference also aims to address the issues that challenge all of us caring for people faced with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. It will show how we can put our ideas into practice and be able to overcome challenges faced in providing quality palliative care.

Acknowledging the roles that our volunteers and the general practitioners play in the whole care-giving tapestry, we have specifically catered elements in our programme that will also interest these vital partners of ours. Learn more in these pages about our Pre-Conference workshops. Check out opportunities to win bursaries to attend the Conference for free, open to both our foreign and local colleagues. Come and share with us your work by submitting abstracts for free paper or poster presentation.

SPCC 2014 will be an excellent opportunity for networking, renewing old ties, making new friends and to inspire and create new projects that will help reduce suffering and improve the quality of life of patients and families back in your community.

We look forward to welcoming you to Singapore.

Adjunct Associate Professor Edward POON
Organising Chairman, SPCC 2014
