Nursing homes are an important setting for end-of-life care.
 The proportion of nursing home deaths is expected to increase in the upcoming years.1 
 International differences exist in the role of nursing homes in end-of-life care.
 Indeed, the proportion of residents dying in the nursing home ranges from 45% in Japan, to 68% in the US and 90% in Belgium.
