Walk Against Pain
14 January 2013
The annual Walk Against Pain will be held at the
Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday 24 January 2013, to raise money for
valuable research into pain.
One
in five Australians live with chronic pain, and one in three over 65s,
while for those with dementia, it is suspected pain is severely under
reported.[1],[2]
For those in residential aged care, the under treatment or over treatment of pain can compromise quality of life.[3]
The Walk Against Pain will raise money
for the Pain Management Research Institute, a joint initiative between
the Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Sydney.
Now in its third year, the Walk Against
Pain has seen many people, including sporting legends and government
ministers, walk against pain.
Participants walk the perimeter of the
SCG while, inside the boundary line, the Primary Club’s Marathon Cricket
matches take place.
A family event, there is off field
entertainment and face painting for the kids, while patron Richie Benaud
OBE is on hand to autograph walkers’ t-shirts.
At the end of the walk, participants
can enjoy the Battle of the Codes 20/20 cricket match, where the legends
of Rugby Union take on the legends of Rugby League.
Tickets are $25 per individual and $70
per family, and participants can also arrange sponsorship for the number
of laps they complete.
