Faculty
Joan K. Harrold, MD, MPH, FACP, FAAHPM
Dr. Harrold is the Medical Director and Vice President of Medical Services of Hospice and Community Care in Lancaster, PA and has more than 18 years of experience in hospice and palliative care. Board certified in Internal Medicine with added qualifications in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, she received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. She also completed a Master of Public Health degree with special emphasis in epidemiology and biostatistics. Dr. Harrold serves on the Boards of Directors of NHPCO and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation and previously served as a director on the Boards of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABHPM), and the Pennsylvania Hospice Network. Dr. Harrold actively participates in NHPCO in a number of capacities including: co-chair of the Palliative Care Advisory Council, Relatedness Workgroup, Physician Education Subcommittee, and the NHPCO/MAC Workgroup. She has also served as the Physician Section Leader of the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals and on the Governance Committee, Chief Medical Officer Council, and Palliative Care Task Force. Dr. Harrold is co-author of the Handbook for Mortals: Guidance for People Facing Serious Illness (2nd edition, 2011), has participated in peer-reviewed research in hospice care, and is a frequent presenter on national and regional levels.
