The Queensland University of Technology Australian Centre for Health Law Research, Dalhousie Health Law Institute and Tsinghua Health Law Research Centre 

are pleased to invite you to the International Conference on End of Life: Law, Ethics, Policy and Practice 2014 (ICEL 2014). The conference will be hosted by the Queensland University of Technology Australian Centre for Health Law Research in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from 13-15 August 2014.

We are pleased to announce that due to the high level of interest in the conference, we have outgrown our original venue. The International Conference on End of Life will now be held at the Mercure Hotel, Brisbane which is a short 10 minute walk from QUT Gardens Point Campus. Please note, however, that the debate on Wednesday 13 August and the Welcome Drinks will remain at QUT.

The Conference will provide a global forum at which health law scholars, bioethicists, legal and health practitioners, and health law and bioethics institutions can meet to discuss and present on law, ethics, policy and practice relating to the end of life, in particular around the conference’s four sub-themes:

1. Withholding and withdrawal of potentially life-sustaining treatment (e.g. advance care planning, futile treatment)
2. Palliative care and terminal sedation
3. Euthanasia and assisted suicide
4. Determination of death and organ and tissue donation.
